Race History:
The Louisville Marathon was started by the Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Parks Dept in 1980.  The marathon has had several venues but the favorite seems to be the one we are using now, River Road along the Ohio River.  After the Metro Parks Dept. dropped the marathon in 1995, the Cherokee Road Runners Club picked it up and ran it along side the Kentucky 50 miler.  It was very unofficial and needed its own venue.  In 1999 the club moved the marathon to River Road and changed the name to the Louisville Marathon.
What is the size of the field?
In 2007, the Louisville Marathon had 415 participants and 746 took part in the half marathon.
What is the course like?

Very fast course. Really. Very flat except for three miles from about mile 6 - mile 9. The course starts downtown, runs south to and around Iroquois Park, up Seventh Street Road to Algonquin Parkway, then west to Southeastern Parkway, around Chickasaw and Shawnee Parks, then about six miles along the RiverWalk, a paved path on the south bank of the Ohio, finishing downtown at the Louisville Slugger baseball stadium.
